There’s an App for That
What’s the number one factor that separates success from failure? Persistence.
I’m going to assume that those of you who found this article have a goal in mind and are looking for useful tools to help you accomplish that goal. Apps are useful tools, and if you have an android device, you should check out the app Loop Habit available in the Google Play and F-Droid stores. If persistence is a key factor in success, then a progress tracker can keep you on track.
The Features
If you’re looking for a lot of bells and whistles, look elsewhere because Loop Habit Tracker a simple app; however, I find this to be a strength not a weakness. Here is the apps core features:
1) You can create “Habits”. These are activities that can either be marked as yes or no (ex. Did you workout today?), or measured (ex. How many minutes did you run today?).
2) You can set reminders and notifications.
3) You can keep track of your statistics. I like this a lot. Using this feature you can see how many times you have worked on your goals over the past three months at a glance or longer in the expanded window. There is even a 0-100 rating scale adding more emphasis on recent progressive to boost motivation.
4) You can export and import data. This app doesn’t syn. to an online server, so you will be responsible for making your own backups but it’s nice to be the only one with access to your own data.
5) You can create checkable widgets. Start the day off with “empty” translucant habits and slowly fill your home screen up with color as you check off completed tasks. (Pro Tip: Using color and notification bubbles is how apps hijack your brain. Why not use that to your benefit).
6) You can organize your habits by list and color. No folders or tags but you can attach questions to your habits as reminders and indicators.
Sweet and Simple
And that’s about it. Habits is a sweet and simple little app but it’s one that I find myself coming back to each time I get a new device or have some new activity that I want to track. If you find yourself struggling to make progress on a goal or get started on a new one, Loop Habit Tracker could be a good place to start.
